I have windows xp pro on my pc. I want to uninstall it and install xp

programs must I save to disc.

Yes, you will lose everything because you must do a clean install since you
want to do a downgrade. Back up your data. Programs must be installed from
whatever installation media you have - cd or the installer executable if
you downloaded from the web.

Going from XP Professional to XP Home is a downgrade, and downgrades aren't
supported. The only way to do what you want is by doing a clean
installation, and that means that you will lose *everything* on the
drive--programs, data, etc.

Saving programs is useless. When you install Windows cleanly, you then need
to reinstall all the programs from scratch.

Why do you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Professional is a superset
of Home? Professional has features not in Home, but there's nothing in Home
that's not also in Professional, and therefore no possible advantage to
doing this.

Certainly. The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to
format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path
or technique.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation,, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.

There shouldn't be a need to "save" any programs; simply re-install
them from the same CDs from which they were originally installed.
