Uninstall works so Word 2000 will work.

I have a new computer with Vista that came with Works 8. I have purchased
and installed a copy of Word 2000, but when I try to open a file Works/word
processor takes over and says it cannot open the file. I tried to uninstall
works, but it's not even listed in the uninstall list. How can I make it so
Word 2000 is in charge? Can I do it in one fell swoop? Hellp much
appreciated.

Thanks for the link, JoAnn. I couldn't do a conversion because my Word 2000
wasn't seen by the program listing. The word program is listed in programs
on the start menu and the word function works, but it doesn't exist
distinctly as word in the programs/office folder, whereas the Works suite
does. I just received this word software (bought it on ebay) It's from a
good seller and has a certificate of authenticity with a product key and it
installed with no problem, apparantaly as part of the office suite (I tried
to make it go into the programs folder as a separate entity, but it wouldn't
do it). Anyway, I'm a bit stymied. When I tried to update it on the
microsoft word 2000 update page, the updater couldn't see the word software.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the program three times, but it made no
difference. What am I doing wrong, I wonder. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

Please disregard this thread now. My problem seems to be related to the kind
of word 2000 I have and I must start a new thread to get a proper answer.
