uninstall window vista

I bought a new desktop computer and it came with Windows Vista. My school
software is not Vista compatible. I have a windows xp disk from an old
computer I threw away. How do I switch from using Vista to XP. I know I have
to uninstall it but how do I do that?

If it was a 'recovery' CD, it most likely will not run on your new
computer.. many are BIOS locked, only installable on the machine with which
they were supplied.. OEM genuine MS CDs are tied to the old machine too.. a
full retail XP CD would be OK..

BUT

Your new machine may not have XP drivers available for all internal
devices.. check with the computer manufacturer first..

You might also want to check with the 'school' software authors for fixes
enabling the software to be run on Vista..

Two possible solutions:
1. Mark the incompatible software to be run in XP compatibility mode. It
might run.
2. Download Microsoft's virtual PC software and install XP into it, and
install the school software into that virtual XP.
