I would like to uninstall a win xp pro. It is malfunctioning (missing
winlogon.exe and shlwapi.dll files) and I do not have the program cd.
While attempting to install win 98, I got a message reporting that I need at
least 200 MB memory before continuing with instalation and I was not able to
enter MS DOS in order to free some space.
Thank you for any help.

Marcus, it's best to format and start over. Go here and get a super
duper Win98 bootdisk. www.bootdiskcom
Then go into the Bios and set your floppy as first boot device. Finally
you can use fdisk and format to create or delete
partitions or just format the one you have.

If you attempt to install a previous version of Windows over the top of XP
SP2, or SP1 then you will receive error messages effectively suggesting that
it isn't possible to 'upgrade' the Operating System.

You will need to boot off the 98 Installation CD, set BIOS to boot off CD,
then insert the 98 CD.

During the installation process you will have the option to format the Hard
Drive and then Install 98. Do this.

Warning: make sure you backup or copy all your personal folder / files off
to CD or other safe medium.
