Uninstall/Install IE

Guest

I'm having script errors and other errors where I get the message "Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

A funny example is when I type "Internet Explorer has encounter" into the
"MySearch" search bar. It always occurs when I do this. However, I can
search using my search tool on my Bellsouth homepage.

As I'm trying to track this down, I have read some advice that I should
uninstall, then reinstall IE. I have XP SP2, and IE 6.0

IE does not show up in the list if I go to control panel--->Add/Remove
Programs. Should I see it there? If I were to uninstall IE, how would I go
online to reinstall it? Or can I just download it without installing, then
unzip it to install?

I've already looked at hotfixes Q812400 and 812960. They don't apply to
SP2. Downloading script 5.6 didn't work either.

Can anyone help me here?

Hi Jeter :)

Unlike previous versions of Windows, IE is a core part of the XP program,
thus, it is not a stand alone program, and will not show as a separate
program in the Add/Remove Programs list as other versions do.

Here is the information on the correct procedures for doing a repair of
reinstall of IE/OE in XP. Please follow all instructions carerully:

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/EN-US/

But, before repairing IE6 SP2 you will have to remove Windows XP Service
Pact 2 from Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Then use the last
method in this article:

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
