Uninstall device not allowed

I am trying to uninstall a device and get a failure message that tells
me, "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up
the computer". How do I uninstall the device.
It should be seen as a "Sony DV Camcorder" but is not being recognised
as such. It is being recognised as "Sony Digital Imaging Video". It is
recognised in another PC OK. I have replaced the IEEE1394 card and if I could
uninstall the old device I think I may get it to work.

When you have trouble uninstalling software, one solution is to reinstall
the program from your installation CD or whatever, and then try to
uninstall.

Have you tried booting to Safe Mode and then uninstall?
