Uninitialized ActiveX Controls?

Help!

I created a file in excel 2003 for a co-worker's client project which had
some simple command buttons and spinners. The co-worker sent the file to a
client and apparently at some point it was edited in Office 2007. Now, when
I try to open the file (after having installed the patch to open .xlsw files)
I get an error message which says "Uninitialized ActiveX Controls will not be
opened in this version of excel" - and all of the controls have become
pictures.

I'm not a programmer, just an excel user.

Any thoughts?
