unidentified virus ??

i apologize if this is a poor place to post this, but I'm
getting desperate. i recently picked up a "virus" that
Macafee and Norton do NOT detect. They say I'm fine. Every
time I reboot my homepage defaults to www.find-itnow.com
(no matter wgere it was set and i get several porno sites
added to my favorites list. these like to 'open" at random
intervals. My hosts file was full of garbage, but now
remains "clean."

Deleting the shortcuts and changing homepage is fine until
I reboot. Power tools reg clean-up/ Adaware pro clean/
window washer- no help. Anyone heard of this? My .class
files seem to be "normal"

try spybot search and destroy 1.2 from www.download.com i have had very good luck with this... sounds like you have a bad case of spyware. or you have downloaded a popup blocker that is set to do this accordign to its license

Greetings --

That's not the results of a virus, but rather the action of some
adware or spyware that you (or some else using your computer) have
downloaded and installed. Many porn websites install such things
automatically when the prompt agreeing to install their "viewer" is
clicked. Because this is something that must be deliberately accepted
and installed, neither Norton's of McAfee "presume" to know better
than the user, and do not recognize such software as a virus.

When visiting such the sites be careful not to download/install
their "free" viewers. ;-} To repair the current situation, uninstall
the "viewer(s)" provided and then use Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de
and SpyBot Search and Destroy from http://security.kolla.de/ to clean
up any residue. Both have free evaluation versions.
