Certain programs take extremely long to load

B

btkramer

I have been having some extremely long load times for
certain programs and can't figure out why.
Some things take a really long time (about 4+ minutes)
before a window even opens,(but the

process loads right away in Task Manager) like going to
User Accounts or Services

(administrative tools) or Perfect Disk. Then there's IE
and Windows Messenger which open a

window right away, but take a few minutes before they
actually start downloading the homepage

(yahoo) and are non-responsive in the mean time. Once IE
finally does get going, it's fast and

have no problem loading other pages. Opera however, loads
fine and downloads right away upon

opening. During these load times the processer usage is
extremely low (<5%), the hard drive is

not being accessed, and my memory usage is fairly low. I
have run NAV, Adaware,

PCBugDoctor,Trojan Hunter, Spywareblaster, Registry
Mechanic, and Reg Compact, all of which made

no difference. I have defragmented with Perfect Disk, and
checked my autostart programs, which

there were very few. Plenty of other programs run
perfectly fine and quickly. I had Goback

installed for a day, but uninstalled it and there was no
difference. I am running XP Pro on a P4

2.4 with 1GB RAM and a 240GB RAID0 array, a GeForce
FX5600 256MB. This is also a fresh

install(due to a virus) of XP (4 days old) on a formatted
array, and I even tried reinstalling

(upgrading) XP today to no effect. I did not have this
problem right away after first installing

this copy of XP. It was after installing all of the stuff
I had backed up, so it is hard to

pinpoint what exactly made the difference, but I don't
think anything I installed really should,

and I don't want to go through another clean install.

Kelly,
Startup Tracker would not seem to run correctly. Upon
loading, it would open a window and sit there, not
displaying any results. I hit refresh and a window came up
saying that the other application was busy, switch to,
refresh. Neither option did anything. I let it sit for
about ten minutes. Nothing. So I restarted in safe mode
and it ran fine. Those other issues also were fine. I
can't see anything wrong with the startup log though.
Here's the log:

First I've heard of this, really. This program has run flawlessly for
hundreds of users. That said, of all of the HP software I see listed here
(other than that, you have a pretty clean running system), I would suggest
disabling the Taskbar Utility and ZLC while troubleshooting. Good luck!

Earl

I am having the same problem. I notice it for IE, Outlook, McAfee
Virus Scan, KaZaA, and AOL Instant Messenger. It's driving me nuts.

One evening I installed Office 2003. Before I restarted, everything
ran fine. After restart, this. Any help would be great. This is
EXACTLY my problem though, and it doesn't look like many others are
hving this one. Thanks in advance,
Earl
