Jim

Hi,

Could anyone please identify the programs that the
following processes, which are shown in the "Services"
tab of msconfig.exe, are associated with:

Cretsoecn
Arptsbrd

Also, I have not yet received any response to my earlier
inquiry:

Can someone please advise me what the "Proxy Desktop"
or "Desktop Proxy" is?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim you just posted this 15 minutes ago. Be patient. It can take up to
24 hours for someone who might know the answer to see your message.

I've been experiencing some problems with Internet
Explorer when I post to the Newsgroup. I had to close
the browser down and was not certain whether my earlier
posting had been received.

www.prcview.com has a free process viewer that will tell you the parent
program that initiated the process as well as everything you need to know
about the process and the paths to its root. {:~)

Search what folder they are in on you pc.

Try entering "services.msc" (without the ") from the RUN
box. See if you can find the service.
Right click it, properties, and you may see a path to the
executable.

No such files on my machine. They look suspiciously like names that have
been randomly generated, from which one *could* infer either a program that
writes temporary files in that fashion, or from malware.

Sorry so little info,
Joe

A Google web search fails to find a single reference anywhere to
either of these names. That suggests that they are likely malware of
some kind - either virus related or some sort of spyware.

Make certain your antivirus software is completely up to date with the
virus definitions not more than a week old and do a complete virus
scan of your hard drive. Then get a "second opinion" by doing a free
online virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Next go to MVP Jim Eshelman's spyware check page at
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm and see if that finds anything. Then
follow the procdures in Jim's quick fix page at
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm to clean up your system.

If these items are still present after doing the virus and spyware
cleanup described above then post another response back here with the
details.

Good luck
