unexpected application closedown

In the last 2 days I have found that applications
suddenly close for no obvious reason, and the mouse
freezes, and icons and toolbars open up in a sudden rush.
All these problems occur at different times and seemingly
at random. I have Symantec virus software and have done a
virus check, but with a negative result. Any suggestions?

You might also try Spybot Search and Destroy:

It's extremely aggressive so be careful with it. This is almost always
caused by some sort of malware. When you did the virus scan, did you have
the latest virus definitions?

Have you tried simply removing and reinstalling the application? If that
doesn't resolve it, it would really appear you have something lurking
somewhere on your setup.
