Undo powerpoint link in Word?

J

Jeff

I've "sent" a PowerPoint presentation and notes to Word and formatted it to
suit me for lecture notes.

However, I believe the images in the resulting Word doc are still linked to
the original PowerPoint 2002 - which I do not want. Is there a way to
unlink the Word doc images from the PP presentation?

Thanks.

In Word:

Edit > Links. Highlight the links in the Links dialog box. Click Break Link.

Does this work?

Not sure what you mean. In Word 2002, under Edit there is no option called
"Links".

If I right click on an image, there is no option to break a link.

There should be a Links option on the Edit menu. It's at the bottom of the
menu, and it won't usually show up if you have the short menus turned on. If
you see a chevron at the bottom of the Edit menu, click it to expand the
menu -- you should be able to see "Links" then.

Aha!

Actually "links" was there, but I could not see it because it was grayed out
and so faint I could not see it. It stays grayed out whether I have selected
an image or not.

Does this mean the images in the Word document I created by using "Send to"
from my PowerPoint 2002 to Word 2002 are NOT linked to the original
presentation and I can edit the images without messing up the PP
presentation? The reason I was worried is because when I double click on an
in image in the Word document the "Hyperlink" is not grayed out. How do I
find out?

When you originally did File > Send to > Microsoft Word, in the resulting
dialog box did you select "Paste" or "Paste Link?" If you selected Paste
(default), your files are not linked. If you selected Paste Link they are. If
you aren't sure, redo your Send to Word, and make sure you select Paste.

I chose just "Paste". Thanks for the help.

Then, as Sandy explained, they are not linked.

If you wish to make your Word files a bit smaller, choose Paste Link
instead, and then in Word, Edit|Links|Break Links. It's counter-intuitive, I
know, but breaking the links this way does make smaller files than a regular
"Paste" does when using File|Send to|Word.
