undesirable delay between mouse click and start of animation in PPT2003

How can I make an object appear with no delay when the mouse is clicked in PPT 2003? I have set the action to "appear", timing to "on mouse click" and delay to "zero" but the delay is still there. This causes the animation to be very jerky (first object disappears a half second before its new location appears). The sluggishness is not in the computer, since in PPT 97 the object appears INSTANTLY upon the mouse click. How can I eliminate this delay in PPT 2003?

What is the object you're animating?

I assume you are showing a 97 created presentation on a computer with
2003.
I have had exactly the same problems with animations, especially the
appear and wipe, the only solution is to remove the animation and then
re-apply it.
I suspect the way that 97 codes the effect is completely different and
2003 has trouble interpreting it.

These quirks are interesting and I can now tell just by running the
presentation if it was created on a mac (most of the time a wipe does
not complete the line of text) or a 97 as you have experienced.

How very interesting. Thanks for posting this info, Dave.

Echo FYI,
It really shows up if the presentation has been re-worked several times
(check the editing time).
I could offer more quirks but it would OT.

It's not a matter of converting from PPT97. The unwanted delay is there even when you create a new animation in PPT 2003. For example, draw a circle, then animate it to appear on mouse click. When you run the presentation, the object does not appear until about half a second AFTER you click the mouse. This presents a problem when you want something to alternate between two positions by going back and forth with the L and R arrow keys. This delay was NOT present in PPT97, where objects appeared instantly. My question is how to eliminate this annoying delay.

Well, my question was what kind of object are you animating. I was thinking
that perhaps you were animating a photo. If your photo is overscanned, then
that could cause a delay with the animation.

Since you mentioned drawing a circle, though, I'll suggest instead that this
may be a video driver/display issue. So try changing your hardware
acceleration. Instructions are at

Also, do you have anything running in the background? (antivirus software,
distributed computing applications, Outlook, etc.?) If so, disable them or
close them down and see if that helps.

Thanks. The problem was a lot of other stuff running in the background.

Glad to hear you got it worked out. Thanks for letting us know.
