Underscore in current NT domain name

I read somewhere that underscores are bad and must be
eliminated. Is there any truth to this?

I have an NT4 domain right now with an underscore in the
name. My win2k servers are member servers and I intend on
upgrading everything to AD and getting rid of the NT
servers. If the underscore is a problem it would appear I
would have to create an AD domain ahead of my upgrade,
then upgrade the PDC/BDC machines to Win2k joining the
newly created no-underscore domain during the process.

Anyone provide me some feedback?
Thx

Underscores aren't a valid character in DNS. Since AD relies on DNS,
underscores aren't valid in AD either.

I believe the promotion to the first domain controller in a domain allows
you to change the legacy domain name, i.e. the NT4-type domain name. The
default is the NT4 domain name. You can start running through the wizard to
confirm this.
