when i go onto different websites some words are in blue and underlined. I
can actually click on them and usually an ad will pop up.

It happens on every site I go to and they are random words...

can anyone help?

They're called links, and they're the very essence of the web, in that they
refer you to other Web locations directly. If they all lead to pop-up ads
you must be reading some funny sites.

I know what a link is!

for example on this page (microsoft help page) It explains what my display
name is. the word display is in blue and underlined 2 times. when i roll my
mouse over it a pop up appears and it reads RX related content. When I click
on it it brings me to a search engine: RX web search.

I am very familiar with computers...this is something new.

Give us a URL where we can see the behavior. This could be what I have seen on some websites where they have different words configured as pop-up links to site advertisers. It could also be that your system is infected with some type of malware that is causing this behavior.

ok try

www.patriots.com

at the very bottem of the page there is a disclaimer stating this is the
only official website of the New England Patriots....... the word website is
in red and underlined 2X...reading further along..... distribution r
transmitting of any part or parts.... the word transmission is underlined 2x
and in red.

Also try photobucket.com: on the lower left side there is a brief
description of what photobucket is. Some of those words are in blue with the
double underline as well.

I see nothing in RED and nothing is underlined twice, only underlined once.

There are three links at the bottom.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

Confirming what Wes posted. I don't see any of the behavior you described. Sounds like there is definitely some malware at work here. I recommend the following.

Go to the following website:

Click Register to join the forums at the top of the page (free) and then go to the
"Parasites - Adware, Spyware & Other Scumware" forum and post a detailed explanation of your problem for expert, one on one advice and guidance on how to clean your system.
