Underline turned on at startup

Whenever I open Word 2003 the Underline button is turned on and I have to
turn it off each time. I checked Excel 2003 and it does not do this. Also,
I ran the repair option in Word and this did not fix this.

How do I fix Word so that the Underline button is not turned on each time I
start Word?

1. Open a new document.
2. Select the first paragraph by left-clicking once in the left margin
to the left of the first line.
3. Click on Format | Font | Font tab | Underline style: None | Default | OK.
4. If you are prompted to save changes to your normal.dot global
template when you exit Word, say yes.
