I was runing Windows 98 on a compaq presario machine, but when I installed
an upgrade to Windos XP, my modem and my sound card, were recognized by
windows XP but they don't work. I have Checked for new drivers but the answer
I got is that the same drivers that worked wuth Win 98, they should worked
with Windows Xp.
And the massege I gpt from Windows Xp is as follows ''This device is disable
because the firmware of a device did not give the require resources" (code 29)
can any one help?
Thanks
Alex. V.

Windows 98 drivers are NOT compatible with Windows XP. If the old hardware
is not recognized and set up correctly during the install (using drivers
supplied by the install) it is up to you to hunt down the correct drivers.
If none are available you have to upgrade your hardware.

Have you checked with HP/Compaq to see if your model is compatible with XP?
Some Compaq's designed for 98 need a BIOS upgrade or are simply not
compatible with XP.

Who ever gave you that answer is wrong. Win98 device drivers do NOT work
for XP.

Run the Compatibilty check on the XP CD. If it passes then go to Compaq
for device drivers for XP for your model.

Find the XP drivers for your hardware. Compaq may, or may not provide
them. YOu may have to ID those cards and get the drivers from another
source, possibly the chipset makers.
