Undeliverable Messages/Sending Email Problems

Hi!

I hope that someone can help me out.

I'm a home computer user, using MS Office Outlook 2003 as my email client,
am connected to the Internt via Comcast cable modem and my email SMTP server
is smtp.earthlink.net.

I have no problems sending/receiving emails in general, but when I send
emails addressed to groups set up in my Outlook address book, I invariably
receive an "undeliverable" message from the System Administrator containing
the following text:
............................
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: <subject name>
Sent: 12/30/2005 16:08

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Andy Name ([email protected]) on 12/30/2005 16:10
550 Your message does not conform to RFC2822 standard

Anna Name ([email protected]) on 12/30/2005 16:10
550 Your message does not conform to RFC2822 standard

(And then similar lines for all the other names/addresses in the group
list)
..........................

The problem is obviously something to do with Error 550 and the RFC2822
standard.

Please help! Thanks.

Thanks Dave. I've checked out the article, which is quite technical in
nature. So are you suggesting that I need to change the journaling settings
in Exchange System Manager?

Thanks again!

Rfc2822

The answer is really quite simple. All you need to do is check that you’ve typed the email addresses correctly in the mail that you have tried to send. For some reason if you mistype a single email address in the TO: or CC: lines of Windows Mail, the program gets it’s undies in such a bunch that it can neither send the other emails nor communicate the problem to you in plain English. It just offers you a cryptic message about RFC2822.

Here’s what to do: First ignore all of the otherwise misleading advice in this thread. Then, open the “Outbox” folder in your mail program. You’ll see all of the mail there that you’ve been trying in vein to send over the past few days. Open the very first one and verify that all of the email addresses that you’ve typed are correct. Fix or remove the offending address and you’re off to the races. If that doesn’t work, you may have to delete the problematic email altogether. Presuming the subsequent emails are ok, they’ll be sent out in turn once the problem email is fixed.

I hope this helps; it worked for me. Good Luck…
