Undeletable Files After Using Checkdisk

I recently used Checkdisk to fix some file and directory corruption and
I now have, predictably, a folder named "found.000" in my root
directory. I can delete some of the files and folders in "found.000" -
but there are many that undeletable. Many of the undeletable folders
contain files that are named using illegal or garbage characters and
Windows will not let me rename them using standard naming conventions.

Can someone please tell me how to remove these files and folders from my
hard drive.

try booting to safe mode and then deleting them

hit f8 during boot, choose safe mode.

Unfortunately, Safe Mode does not allow me to remove those folders or
files. Does anyone else have any suggestions.

could try the recovery console and delete them there.

boot to the XP CD and choose recovery console...
