Undeletable File

Hello. I have a few files/folders on my computer that can't be deleted
through any means. The error message is "access denied: make sure disk
is not full or write-protected and this file may currently be in use".
I have tried a number of methods on google groups, from kelly's korner
to the microsoft solution and none of them seemed to work. I have tried
changing permissions and I have full access to the file and it still
will not delete. Does anyone have a solution?

Please define the fully qualified name and paths to said files/folders.

Ok, so I have delete the zip file that was causing an issue, but the
folders that I cannot delete are still there. The path is now C:\Bad
Folders\ and the folders are ZZZZZZZZZZZ, Themes, and World of
Warcraft. Also, in safe mode I have tried the cmd method, but what is
this registry method?

I've been having the same problem with my modem log file
[C:\WINDOWS\ModemLog_PCI SoftV92 Modem.txt] ever since I setup Windows
Fax. Although I configured it for manual receive, some kind of system
program now keeps running in the background. Becuase that program would
use my modem to send or receive a fax, my modem log is locked and cannot
be deleted or edited.

Hi Benjm - From my Blog, Defending Your Machine, addy below in my signature:

Sometimes the tools below will find files which they are unable to delete
because they are in use.

A program called Copylock, here, http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc can
aid in the process of "replacing, moving, renaming or deleting one or many
files which are currently in use (e.g. system files like comctl32.dll, or
virus/trojan files.)"

Another is Killbox by Option Explicit, Beta version available here:
http://www.killbox.net/downloads/beta/KillBox.exe Overview directions are
available here: http://www.killbox.net/help.html#Top Read carefully - this
tool is quite powerful.

A third which is a bit different but often very useful is Delete Invalid
File, here: http://www.purgeie.com/delinv.htm which handles invalid/UNC
file/folder name deleting, rather than the in use problem.

A fourth useful program is Unlocker, here:
..http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ " Simply right click the folder or file
and select Unlocker. If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of
lockers will appear. Simply select the lockers and click Unlock and you are
done!" Works as advertised and is particularly helpful in identifying
malware components which are 'protecting' each other.

Hook up the hard drive to another system and delete them from there.
