Kinda new to xp and too this group...when I download a program that has the
..zip extension I see that xp has it's own uncompressing software and it
uncompressed it...my question is where does it uncompress to??? what
directory name? I'm used to using pkunzip in dos mode in the old operating
system...TIA

Try looking in Documents and Settings\(Username)\Local Settings\Temp

I use WinRAR for ZIP and other archive files, though.

Typically, unzipped files go to the 'My Documents' folder. You can also
select the location that files will be unzipped to.

Remember, if you lose a file in XP just click Start and then 'Search'
for it. It works!

Good luck

Windows XP treats zip files as folders. When you double-click a zip file,
you see all the files included within it, just as if it were a real folder.

Where are they really? They aren't actually kept anywhere, but while the zip
file is open, they should be in the temp folder. If you want to keep them,
you should save them somewhere yourself.
