win xp home. 2 internal hds c: & d:
c: contains system and program files.
d: contains data
the number of folders acting this way on d: is growing every day:
if i try to open these folders = "...is not accessible" +"access is
denied"
if i try to erase these folders = " ...cannot delete" +"access is
denied"
properties for these folders indicate 0 files, 0 folders. all of these
are folders that DID contain mp3s.
i have been searching on the net for over 6 hours now. i have tried all
the software suggested. i have tried going into safe mode, but my d: in
safe mode is not accessible.
help?

Hi tchandro,

How is your computer setup, for Drive D: not to be accessible thru Safe
Mode? Have you updated your Virus Dat Definitions and run a complete Virus
Scan of both Hard Drives? How large is your Drive C: and How large is your
Drive D:? Are they partitioned?

thanks thecreator and ricky.

i ran a full scan and no virus.
c:\os=66GB
d:\data=75GB
e:\hp_recovery=8GB
i did what ricky said and it worked. my folders go back to having
somehting in them, mp3 files, and i can see those files, move them and
the whole shebang. [thank you sooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

BUT

i can't play them! i get wmp telling me 'windows media player cannot
access the file. the file might be in use, etc...'

any ideas on this?

and furthermore... why is this happening? [how do i avoid folders being
locked?]

let me know what time is good for you for beeeeeeerrrrrrrrsssssssss. :)

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

In XP Home you have to boot in safe mode to see the security tab. In XP Pro
you have to disable simple file sharing.
