All of a sudden, I'm unable to view Web pages - any Web
pages - in IE6sp1. The facts:
I've had this version of IE6 installed and running on my
computer without problems for the past 6-8 months.
This morning, however, when I tried to visit a Web site,
nothing appeared in the browser. It tries to connect, but
nothing shows up.
The problem isn't with my ISP, since I'm able to send and
receive e-mail in Outlook.
The problem isn't with the sites I'm trying to visit, since
I'm able to visit those same sites, using the same ISP
connection, with the Netscape browser.
The only 'unusual' thing I did this morning was stop a
runaway svchost.exe process that was consuming 95%+ of my
CPU time. The problem began after I stopped that process,
but I've done so in the past without adverse effect on IE.
I've rebooted my computer several times. I've also tried to
do a system restore, but strangely enough, I'm not able to
complete a restore successfully. I've tried three different
checkpoints and each time the software tells me that it
can't restore to that point. Strange...
Can anyone help? Thanks.
