unable to view Standard Buttons, Address Bar, etc. in My Computer

Today I was browsing through my hard drive in "My
Computer" until my Address Bar suddenly disappeared. Then
my Standard Buttons disappeared. The Start Menu and
Internet Explorer still have the Standard Buttons and
Address Bar. I've been unable to get back the buttons and
bar since then. I tried clicking on the area but nothing
came up. Now I have to right-click on everything to bring
a menu up to customize something or do something with a
file, which is very inconvenient. Has anyone else had
this problem?

What happens if you F11 ?

I tried the F11 to full screen and it worked but today it
happened again when I inserted a CD into my standard CD-
ROM drive (E: since I have 2 hard drives). Now when I do
the F11, none of the toolbars even view so I can't get the
standard buttons back. Any suggestions?

What happens if you logon as a new user? (create a new account in 'Users and
Passwords').

Now that you mention it, several weeks ago I logged in to my computer and it
said my profile was corrupted and so it made a temporary one. Everything was
reset and I had to reinstall most of my programs and setup my internet
applications again. I restarted my computer several times and my profile was
still corrupted. I edited my temporary profile a little bit and everything
was fine up until now. Were my standard buttons disappearing a long term
result of what I had done several weeks ago?

Also, under the administrator profile, I had inserted a CD into my E: drive
and everything was fine. Could it be that the profile I'm always using is
still corrupted in some way and it's just not saying so? And would I be
better off creating another profile if I can't fix this?

Most likely yes. If the profile is corrupt, you can rename the profile(while
logged on as local admin), then when the user logs on again a new profile
will be created from the image in \default user. You can then copy over the
items you need from the renamed profile. Copy the folder contents not the
folders themselves. When your sure you have all you need, you can delete the
renamed profile(s). Use the import function of your e-mail software.
Reinstalling applications is not necessary.

I created a new profile and everything seemed fine. I inserted a CD into my
standard CD-ROM drive and the buttons disappeared. I was able to get them
back with that F11 trick but it didn't last long. I used my external CD
burner and the same thing happened: no standard buttons, no toolbar. I also
noticed that with my standard CD-ROM drive it had a little trouble reading
the CD (it was a CD-RW at the time but it first happened with CD-R's) until I
single-clicked on the icon in my computer. That's when the buttons
disappeared again. Is there a file or bug in my computer causing this? I
did a full virus scan and deleted all my temporary internet files as well.
