Unable to view my document

When opening some of my Word documents (mainly those that have either been
downloaded or have many images in them) I am only able to view them in the
print preview area. In the normal view nothing appears, even though I can
scan through all pages I can see nothing. Have I accidently changed some odd
setting?
 
Let's make sure we're using the same terms: by "normal view" do you mean
Normal or Print Layout view? By "print preview" do you mean Print Preview or
Print Layout view? If you can see images in Print Layout view (and Print
Preview) but not in Normal view, that's because they're in the drawing
layer. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/DrwGrphcs/InvisibleGraphics.htm. And if
there's text you can't see, it may be in text boxes, which are also
considered drawing objects.
