I am attempting to add a new PC running Windows XP Home to an existing
workgroup network that includes three computers: 2 running Win2000 Pro and 1
running XP home. This workgroup network is about 6 months old and has run
perfectly since it was installed. When I added the new PC to the network, it
was able to access the Internet but could not view any of the other computers
or their shared resources. I performed an IPCONFIG and the IP address, subnet
mask, and default gateway were correct. I also successfully ping’ed all other
computers in the workgroup.
The only thing different between this computer and the other XP computer was
that in the Network & Internet Connections, this new computer had two
connections: a network card and a Internet Gateway on LINUX IGD. I first
disabled the Windows internal firewall, performed a complete virus scan and
attempted to access the Windows Update site to check for security updates. No
viruses were found but I was unable to access the Update site. I next
attempted to delete this LINUX IGD connection but could not because it was
“busyâ€. I was still unable to access any other resources on the network. I
removed the PC from the workgroup network, re-booted it, and then re-joined
it to the network. No luck!
I then re-booted the PC and was then able to delete the LINUX connection. I
was then able to download two security updates and apply them, but still
could not access any workgroup computer or shared resources.
Not sure what to do next and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
