Unable to use ne wimported contacts folder

I helped a user import some contacts from a .csv file into a subfolder
in his contacts folder.

When I try to send mail to any or all of the contacts it does not work.
The name does not appear in the To:, the cc:, or the bcc: part of the
form. Only a "." appears for the first entry, and a "," for any
additional entries.

Has anyone ever seen this before??

It is Outlook 2002 with Exchange 2000 SP3.
