When I click on a mail to link in or out of Windows Mail I get this error
message:

Could not perform operation because the mail client is not installed properly

Windows Mail is set as my default so I don't understand. Can anyone help?

Start menu>default programs>ensure that WM as all its defaults set.

Hi Rhonda,

Try both of these steps:

Click Start, select Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom, and select Windows Mail
Click OK

Then, follow these steps:

Click Set your default programs
Select your mail client from the list
Click Set this program as default
Click OK

Rhonda,

I'm wondering if this is caused due to incorrect registry permissions (for the mailto branch), or due to missing "URL Protocol" registry value. See if this article applies:

Windows Mail can access Gmail accounts using POP or IMAP, and some Yahoo
premium accounts which have POP access.

WLM only adds Hotmail into the mix.
