unable to uninstall program

Hi, I need help I am trying to uninstall norton antivirus from my computer
but the following message appears: runtime error: program:...
ared/symsetup....abnormal program termination. Can I just delete all files?
I want to get rid off this program but can't pass this error message even
after re booting computer. I have a home edition xp. thank you for your help

Norton is the barnacle of the software world. You essentially have to take
your computer out of the water and scrape its bottom.

Symantec's web site has special tools for bottom-scraping.
