Unable to uninstall Hardware Devices

Ok so Im useing XP Pro Service pack 2. I installed a DVD Drive on my PC and
it kept showing that it was 2 drives rather than 1 which got annoying so I
uninstalled the Driver from my tower and my Device manager... But it keeps
popping up! It continues to show an F drive under My computer when there is
no F drive and the DVD drive icon wont leave my Device manager screen. When
i try to uninstall it from there and restart it says it found new hardware...
I sure would love to know how since it hasnt been in the computer for over 3
months.

Can anyone shed any light on this situation? please its rather annoying
 
Did you physically disconnect it or just try to remove it from Device
Manager?
 
Its been physically disconnected for over 3 months now. its currently being
used in my LInux server...
