Unable to type text in dialogue boxes

F

Fillip Desser

After a new install of Windows 2k and installation of all updates from
Microsoft I am no longer able to enter any text into a dialogue box in IE.
Also, I am unable to run the "Scan for updates" on the Windows Update page.
These may be unrelated issues, I am not sure.

This makes it difficult to search the web, as you can imagine, since I can
not enter a search string or fill in on-line forms. Any information is
greatly appreciated.. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. The box was not checked. I went through the internet
options again and it seems thatall things are the same as the settings on a
functioning computer.

Also, I ran Spyware Search & Destroy and found nothing.

Any other advice?

Thanks

Fillip

Hi Fillip :)

As you ran the AdAware and SpyBot, but, theres are only meant to detect and
remove adware and spyware. Everything I can find on this problem points to
scumware of some sort. You may have a malware, parasites, Trojan or
hijacker, that AdAware and SpyBot are not programmed to detect or remove.
First...rRun the test below:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this does not clear the problem, then thy the following:

You may also have a 3rd party application interfering. Disable all
unnecessary applications including anti-virus, download accelerators, pop up
stoppers, ad blockers, etc. and try it again and see if

However, if this *does*clear your problem then you do indeed have some form
of scumware on your system, and you need to find out who the culprit(s)
is/are and get rid of them by doing the following:

Downlood, install and run these programs in Safe Mode. Some types of
scumware can hide in WIndows files, or say they are "in use" to prevent
removal. Safe Mode bypasses Windows and they can't hide and can be removed.
