Unable to type password at welcome screen

Like I have already said Rock, our users here at the hospital have a hard
time just remembering their passwords; much less a user name, so using the
classic logon screen is not a viable option here. I guess for now, we will
just users restart their PC's in order to fix it; which is ridiculous. I
can't believe that there is no fix anywhere being the widespread issue it has
become.

Why not at least give them the option? Some might surprise you. Personally
I think many computer knowledgeable folks tend to under estimate what the
average user can learn.

One day when the cause/solution is found folks will slap their foreheads and
go, oh, of course, that's it... :)

I have been experiencing the same issue with XP Home, SP2. The blinking
vertical login cursor ceases to exist. This happens on two desktops and one
laptop. I'm getting tired of no response from MS. Just move to Vista, eh???

Thanks Dooger, but I'm an ex-unix guy and OS patches are there for a reason
(especially MS security scourges).

I've gone back to using the vanilla login on the remote machine I access via
VNC... it seems to be doing the trick. However, the other XP PC's are a
different story.

Best regards,

I understand what you're saying. The security patch has something to
do with accessing the registry remotely. If someone can get access to
your machine then this could be a problem. The issue for me with this
problem is that a number of times in the office people have switched
users on their computers and had left a few hours work unsaved. When
they go to log back in they are unable to, the only way to get in is
to reboot and of course all that work is gone. I believe this is a far
worse scenario then the very unlikely possibility that someone can
gain access to my registry.
