Unable to surf in Win2000 after using ICS on Win98

I have been sharing an ISDN connection from a computer
running Windows 2000 Pro. SP4 (Main Comp.). Recently, the
main machine conked off and i had to temporarily switch
network cards with a client comp. I installed the 2nd
network card and configured the necessary details.
However, I was not able to surf on the client. I had to
finally make do with ICS on Win98. This worked fine.

The main comp. was finally running and we switched back.
This comp. is running fine and other computers sharing
this connection are working properely. But, the temp.
client comp. is unable to access any web pages at all nor
connect to the internet. I have removed all previous
settings for the internet i.e. network card configs., DNS,
etc.. and also the Win98 ICS settings. I am able to ping
sucessfully but no access to the net. What else have i
missed??

Ajay you might want to doublecheck that you loaded your
ISP DNS setting's correctly, and make sure your machine is
receiving the proper IP and subnet mask setting's and
local DNS setting's. As we know when hosting ICS the host
machine receives an IP address of 192.168.0.1 from your
ISP.

What O/S on the temp replacement machine? What error did
you get?

Temp machine had Windows 2000 Professional with service
pack 4 and the latest patches and updates but this did not
connect to the internet at all. So had to make do with
Windows 98SE with the latest updates on the same machine
(dual booting). ICS was configured and everything was ok.
Again - what error are you getting?
Have you reconfigured your client machine to share this connection from
scratch?

The client machine (running Windows 2000 Professional with
service pack 4) was stripped of the network card and all
drivers, protocols, etc... were uninstalled. Restarted
the machine without the card and again shut down.
Reinstalled the network card and installed all the
protocols etc... Still the same problem. I can ping all
IP Adds but not websites nor can i surf either.

One thing i noticed is the setting for ICS when i was
using Win98SE, the IP add. generated automatically
169.254.x.x is still around (although that has been
changed to the relevant IP add of 192.168.0.x and
necessary DNS settings, gateway settings, etc.). Is that
causing the problem? How do i reset or remove that?
