Hi there,
I'm trying to install a video device on my machine but windows detects
it as network card for some reason. On the companies website (Matrox) this
is a known issue and they provide instructions on how to get around this.
You have to remove the device and when you scan for hardware changes the
'found new hardware' wizard should pop up and you can force XP to use the
correct driver that come with windows. Unfortunately, the found new hardware
wizard does not appear and windows silently installs the device as the
incorrect network card again.
I have tried updating the driver manually but even though I choose
'Install from a list or specific location' and 'Don't search. I will choose
the driver to install' I don't get a list of all the possible hardware to
install, only that same net adapter. Unchecking 'Show compatible hardware'
makes no difference.
anyone out there got any ideas?
Thanks

I can sympathize with your situation. For the last two driver releases,
I've been unable to use the G550 drivers (Causes BSOD at shutdown.
I think I can offer some advice. Matrox makes a stand-alone uninstaller.
This is used after the normal Add/Remove Matrox software uninstaller.
Here is the routine I would recommend.
1. Visit http://matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/files/ftp_util2.cfm
and download "Powerdesk Uninstaller"
Also, while on Matrox's web-site, download the latest driver
for your video card.
2. Open device manager, View, Tic "Show Hidden Devices"
3. Expand Network adapters - Remove the miss-enumerated device
4. Expand Video Adapters - Remove all Devices.
5. Control Panel, Add/Remove Program - Uninstall Matrox
6. Unzip the Powerdesk Uninstaller and run PDUNINST.Exe
7. Unzip the latest driver set.
8. Reboot ( To run the clean-up routines left in the Temp folder).
9. From the latest driver set, run setup
Reboot.

Excellent Post.
I've gone through all the steps you've listed above but unfortunately the
device is still found as a 1394 Net Adapter, even though it's supposed to be
a Texas Instruments 1394 DV Camcorder.

Sorry, I thought the problem was with the video card.
I just need a little more information. What card/MB supplies
the "Firewire" ports? This sounds like a Vendor Identification
string error, e.g. PCI\Ven_905&Dev.....

It's a Matrox RT2000
