Unable to share folder or view folder properties!

I'm running Windows XP Professional (SP2 is not installed). When I select
either "Sharing and Security" or "Properties" on any folder nothing happens!
I am only able to share my root drive "C" - which I do not want to do!! I
am logged in with an Administrator account so should have full rights etc.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem - it's driving me nuts.

Debbie,

when nobody comes forward with a specific solution to this
problem, your next step may be a repair installation of Windows
XP. For that you need to boot from a full retail CD, select
first to install Windows XP, only then to repair the selected
installation.
