Steve

When trying to send email via smtp.freeserve.co.uk i get the following error

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop.freeserve.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

This is a new set up, and i can recieve emails ok, via pop.freeserve.co.uk
i have removed the norton internet suite, and am using AVg 8, which i have
disabled to try get it to work. The mail program is in the allow list on the
firewall ( zonelabs) any body got any ideas?
thanks

This may work:

In Windows Mail, go to Tools > Accounts > Highlight your account >
Properties > Server Tab and put a tick in ‘My server requires authentication‘.

Thanks BurrWalnut,

I had already tried that after viewing some of the other posts, but
unfortunately it didnt work. I used to use the old microsoft outlook which
allowed you to test the settings.

So if anyone else can offer any assistance it would be greatfully received :-)

When you get that error message, is freeserve.co.uk providing
your Internet connection? SMTP on port 25 will seldom work if the
connection provider and SMTP server owner aren't the same entity.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, properties, Servers.
Change smtp.freeserve.co.uk to smtp.karoo.co.uk.
Be sure to uncheck "My server requires authentication".
Do not change any incoming (POP) server information. Do not
change anything else like port numbers. Let me know if this works.

Gary,

Thanks for your assistance, I had just found the same soloution via google.
I have just tried it and it appears to work. Once again thanks for everyones
assistnce.
