Unable to search for PDFs

I have various XP Pro machines on the network (bar one) which cannot find PDF
files when using the WIndows File Search "A Word or Phrase in a File".

The search does not bring back any pdf files, but only .xls files. The
machine which does have this working brings back pdf files and xls files. I
have applied the solution methods (including reg fix) in KB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309173/EN-US/ but this is no good. I have
also installed this:
http://search.msn.co.id/docs/toolbar.aspx?t=MSNTbar_FAQ.htm&FORM=RQSP&v=02.00.00#ADOBE with no joy either.

This affects Windows XP Pro and 1 Windows 2000 Pro machine on the network.

Please help.

Off the top of my head are the Indexing services enabled?
