Unable to run Defragmenter

when i start the defragmenter a window pops up saying internet explorer
unable to find the page. why is it trying to connect to the internet. have
tried typing dfrg.msc from run menu but result is the same. frustrating there
machines aren`t they!

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 dfrgui.dll
regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll

Try to run the defragmenter from the safe mode, ans see if the problem
persists, also run chkdsk bfore that. Maybe some prgram is still
running while ur trying to defragment. Or else download and try a third
party tool and see if it works. check your system for spyware as well.

thanks very much Rameesh, that did the trick. i have had to run a few of
these regsvr32 files recently due to ie6 problems and on similar advice
received
from newsgroups. have you any idea why?
