Unable to run ActiveX?

Whenever I surf to certain sites I get a pop-up message
that says: "Your current security settings prohibit
running ActiveX on this page. As a result the page may
not display correctly."

2 Questions:

1) What setting is disallowing me to run these controls?
2) Is there some way to configure my environment to allow
running controls while still disallowing the others?

Check the IE Options--Security--Active X Controls and
Plugins settings

Tools / Internet Options / Security ...you can set all the ActiveX control
related settings that are currently "Disabled" to "Prompt" for the Internet
zone. That way you'll get a warning before downloading/installing any
ActiveX content.
