I'm running XP Pro and have recently has problems with the restoration. I
have several restore dates that are highlighted and have tried all of them
and after going through the restore process I get the message that system
could not be restored for this date.
Can anyone help me solve this? I've used system restore several times
and most of the time was able to get results. Would appreciate your
comments. Thank you Ed

Restore is not reliable. It's a marketing gimmick for MS.
You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and then
re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot, turn it
back on.
You still have to deal the problem, it's a crap program,
that half works, half the time.

Do a real backup and get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

System Restore In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

I suspect one reason for 'corruption' in SR arises if there is just too
much space allowed for it. By default it gets 12% of a drive, and with
the very large ones that have come in this is too much for sense. I
suggest disabling and rebooting; then clean out the System Volume
Information folder (you will need to have Folder Options - View set to
show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones)

Then start it up again, and take settings of each drive and reduce the
space - say 1 GB or less. I reckon, using 500MB, on it being enough for
say two weeks worth of points, which is about as far back as is sensible
to use it
