Unable to reinstall XP

Hi all
When trying to re-install XP Pro on my PC, at 99% through
the file copying process, I receive the error "Unable to
Copy NTLDR", then if I skip that file, I get the same
error for NTDETECT. This happens with multiple CDs (yes
original and unscratched).
I use the following procedure...
1 Boot PC to the CD drive.
2 I have two partitions on my drive (40Gb each). I select
the first one.
3 Repartition the 1st partition using NTFS, then full
format (not quick format)
4 The partition formats successfully, then starts copying
the files. Error occurs when file copy process at 99%
5.I can repeat the procedure using my other CD (XP home)
and I get the same errors.
I'm stumped by this one, can anyone help me? If you need
any extra info, please ask.Adam

Sorry I should have mentioned I am using NTFS - not FAT32.
The article you mentioned is actually a different
scenario - (ie ntldr missing after first reboot...whereas
I can't even install the ntldr file... also I am using
NTFS, not FAT32)
I've been thinking though.... Could it possibly have
something to do with the MFT? If I ran FIXMBR from the
recovery console, could that possibly fix my problem?

Since you are familar with the recovery console try this
Try copying files to drive first. To replace damaged ntldr
and ntdetect.com you can copy fresh files from the XP CD
using the COPY command. Boot with the XP CD and enter the
Recovery Console (. At the Command Prompt type the
following allowing the files to overwrite the old files
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:
