Unable to read Excel file

I open up a spreadsheet, make changes, try to save. Get
message "unable to read file". Then get message "document
not saved". This is only happening on one spreadsheet (as
far as I know). I've tried to open it on another
computer, save to desktop and open, etc. Same problem.
Also, when I open a spreadsheet I often get the message
that the spreadsheet (or document in Word) is already
opened.

All of these problems have resulted since I put Windows
2000 on my computer. Previously had Windows 98 SE. Using
Excel 97.

Would really appreciate help.

GW King,

Sometimes later versions of Excel are better at recovering damaged files.
If you want, you can send me your file (i am using xl 2003), and I will see
what I can do. If your file contains any VBA code, I would appreciate
knowing that in advance.

My e-mail is (e-mail address removed)

Best regards,

Really appreciate the offer. I solved my own problem.
Opened a new spreadsheet and copied everything. Now works
fine.

Still have the problem of opening an office file and
getting message that the file is already open. Any
suggestions?

Thanks!
GW King
