Unable to read a file in Power Point that is attached to an email

I have email that was sent to me with an attachement that is supposed to be
opend in power point presentation. When I downloaded the file it stated that
the file type could not be opend in Power Point. How is that possible when I
have the power point program to open it in???

Ill assume for the worst that the data is already corrupted. Try
reading this article and giving it a shot. However, PLEASE make a
backup copy of the file before doing anything suggested. You can also
try to use PowerPoint file recovery software to hopefully recover the
file if it is indeed corrupted.

I have Windows XP Media Edition 2005 recently purchased from Dell. I have
downloaded Power Point Ver. 6.0.2600.0, installed, uninstalled,
re-downloaded, etc., etc. and I still cannot open pps files. Popup window
says make a connection in control panel folder options, but I see no way to
do that in folder options. The folder options shows Power Point viewer
installed and able to read pps files. I'm dead in the water now. Need
suggestions.
 
Save the mail attachment to the Desktop, and open the file.
