Unable to re-enter Standby Mode

XP Home is unable to get back into Standby mode a second time (hangs on the 'Preparing to standby ...' screen. The only thing I can do is to re-start the PC. Again it will only be able to go into Standby once each time after re-starting.
I have XP SP1a and all the latest drivers.

Hi,

The latest driver may not be the best one. Try reverting the video driver to
an older version.
