Unable to Publish to my site for more than a month.

Guest

Hello friends,

I have this website www.romancing-the-tea.com.

For the last one month I m just not able to publish any more !

I keep getting this messge

- COULD NOT FIND A WEB SERVER AT 'WWW.ROMANCING-THE-TEA.COM ON PORT 80.
PLEASE CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THE WEB SERVER NAME IS VALID AND YOUR PROXY
SETTINGS ARE SET CORRECTLY. IF YOU ARE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS CORRECT, THE
WEB SERVER MAY BE TEMPORRILY OUT OF SERVICE

I checked out with my host. They say every thing is fine in their end
including frontpage extension.

When I try to publish it connects to the site ok. I could see the remote
site files and pages.
But when I click to 'publish' - the report says "successefully published"
with in few seconds. It used to take many minutes to publish before when it
was working properly. But nothing really uploads.

I am not sure what is the problem. I would appreciate if someone could tell
me what is wrong.

regards,
ken.

Ask you host to run a server health check and/or re-install the extensions for your account.

It may be time to switch to a new host.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the reply.

My host is a good host. They have been always helpful and prompt. They are
genuinely lost for an answer.

Is there anything else I could do.

ken.

Yes. I moved to UK from Ireland. My ISP is different now.

However, I m still able to connect to the site. Frontpage does show the
remote files after connecting.

It simply doesn't publish anymore !

ken

When you changed ISPs, you also changed hosts, correct?
When trying to publish, did you just use the "Publish" command? If so, that
only remembers the last destination published to, which would be your old
host.
Have you tried using File | Publish and putting in the correct URL so it
would go to your new host?

Have you recently installed a new firewall or internet security suite? What
about the proxy server referenced. Does your new ISP use one?

Thanks Tom.

I am not sure wether my new ISP uses any firewalls. I will check it up with
them. My guess is That could be the problem.

I will let you know when I talk to them on Monday.

ken.

As I asked, did *you* recently install a new firewall or security suite?
And if the *host* uses a proxy server.

Hello Tom,

I did speak to my NEW ISP - BRITISH TELECOM.

They insist that they DO NOT have firewall.
The support team made me do some checks which included creating a file
called "TEST" by FTP through INETERNET EXPLORER and look for the uploaded
file through FRONTPAGE FTP CONNECTION.

When I tried to publish from Frontpage - it connects to the site alright. I
can see the file called - "TEST" on the "Remote site window". That means I am
able to connect to my site. There is no firewall problem from the ISP.

1.My own firewall in my computer is turned off.
2.ISP support proved to me that they are not blocking frontpage connection
to my site.
3.My host "DOMINET.NET" is telling me everything from their end is working
fine. They were always been reliable for many years.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE PROBLEM LIES WITH FRONTPAGE.

For some reason it simply WILL NOT PUBLISH !!!

Every time I try to publish - it goes into "LISTING THE FILES IN MY
DOCUMENTS FOLDER". It gets stuck there for long time. Then I get this
following error message -

COULD NOT FIND A WEB SERVER AT 'WWW.ROMANCING-THE-TEA.COM ON PORT 80. PLEASE
CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THE WEB SERVER NAME IS VALID AND YOUR PROXY SETTINGS
ARE SET CORRECTLY. IF YOU ARE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS CORRECT, THE WEB SERVER
MAY BE TEMPORRILY OUT OF SERVICE

I would appreciate your help.

regards,
ken.

FP can not work with all FTP servers, so you may have to use a 3rd Party FTP application to upload
your content or switch to a web host that support the FP extensions and publishing via http, instead
of FTP.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the reply.

Well, I have been using the same Frontpage ftp for 3 years. All of a sudden
this problem has started.

When ever I used Ipswitch Pro ftp client software to upload - the webpages
do not appear proper. It only works with frontpage ftp.

My question is - Why this problem has risen now ? I was able to publish
without any problem untill now.

regards,
ken.

I would appreciate your help.

regards,
ken.

Ask your web host if they upgrade their FTP server or changed it's configurations, etc.
