Unable to ping with name

Hi,
I have newly installed windowsxp machine. Default
networking is configured properly and the machine is on
the network. The problem i am facing is there is one
server whose name is to be resolved with ip address. I
have put the name and ip address in the host file. I
restarted the machine but still i am not able to ping the
machine with the name although i am able to ping the
machine with ip address.
How do i overcome this problem? This is the name of our
Notes mail server. I am unable to see my mails without
this.
Please help..

Check the DNS settings for the network adapter. If you
have entered then manually maek sure they are correct. If
all else fails try using automatically assign.
