Unable to ping hostname

John

After hooking into a hotel high speed connection with my
XP Pro laptop and returning home, I am no longer able to
see other computers on my peer-tp-peer network.

My network is a mix of Win 2k and Win XP.

I am able to ping IP addresses between computers, but I
am unable to ping computer names.

I had this problem before with a Win 2k machine and fixed
it by reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol. Xp however, does
not let me uninstall the TCP/IP protocol.

I have tried ipconfig /flushdns to no avail.

The XP firewall is disabled, the tcp/ip settings are
identical to those of another working XP machines, file
and print sharing is enabled, Client is enabled, the
hard drive is shared as C$, the Guest account is
disabled. Everything appears identical to working
machines.

I have been struggling with this one for quite a while
and cannot find an answer.

Please HELP!!!!

Go to a command prompt, and issue the command:

ipconfig /all

Report the 'node type'.
