Unable to perform reinstallation

I'm using a Windows XP upgrade disk which is not a
bootable disk. I boot from a Windows 98 startup disk and
run winnt.exe from the i386 directory. After I press
enter to install Windows XP and I select the partition
where Windows XP is already installed. Setup is unable to
recognize Windows XP is already installed on this
partition. When I was using FAT32 partitions setup had no
problem recognizing Windows XP was already installed and
would let me perform a reinstallation. Now that I'm using
NTFS partitions Setup forces me to perform a clean
installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I fixed my own problem. I downloaded Microsoft Windows XP
Home Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install from Microsoft.
Here is the url:

This compressed file is extracted to six floppies. When
you boot from these floppies and run setup it loads the
proper files to access the NTFS partition. I was then
able to perform a reinstallation.
