I have a new Maxtor 160GB, motherboard KT7A-Raid. I have tried to different methods. The Maxtor came with a PCI card, downloaded current software. My mother board can has limitations up to 136 GB . ABIT they told me to download the latest driver. In both situations I did and when I run XP Professional it says Unknow Disk
(There is no disk in this drive.)
156328 MB Disk 0 at Id0 on bus 0 on hpt3xx [MBR]
C: Partition1 [New (Raw)]
Unpartitioned space
It says this disk does not contan a windows XP-compatible partition.

Does any one know what the problem is?

Not sure what the problem is?

Delete the partition and have windows create a new one. The disk may also
have come with a formatting utility to allow you to format the drive before
installing windows on the disk?

Greetings,

Well,
If the MB has a limit of 136, you will have to get around that.

I don't think "drivers" are the solution.

You may have luck with -

* a new BIOS for the MB (if there is one that handles > 136)

* an overlay for the disk (software that installs on the disk and makes it
readable to the BIOS)

Look for both of these on the MB web site.

Have you tried Maxtors BigDriveLimit.exe utility? It is suppose to fix this
problem
