Raid 0 and XP install

Sizzle

Hi there,

I'm having a few probs with my windows XP install.

Up until recently I had XP pro running with 2 x Maxtor 80 Gig Sata
HD's using a PCI raid controller with a striped array. Something
happened (Not exactly sure what) where my computer locked up and then
wouldn't reboot. (ot even in safe mode...blue screen of death and the
computer kept restarting)

So now I'm trying to reinstall XP using these drives again and XP is
fighting me all the way.

I've booted into the raid bios, formatted both drives and then created
the array. Then I boot with Windows XP CD and begin the setup. Press
F6 and load the drivers for my Raid card and sure enough my array
appears and unformated partition. So I create a partition and it then
shows as

C: Partition1 [New <Raw>] 156320 MB
Unpartitioned space 8 MB

Then I choose Partition1 and get a message saying "This disk does not
contain a Windows-XP-compatible partition"

Can anyone help me out a little?

Thanks for your time

Si

Are you using a windows xp upgrade disk

Is the whole message like the one below
However, this disk does not contain a Windows Xp compatible partition.
To continue installing Windows XP, return to the partition selection screen and create a Windows XP-compatible partition >on the disk above. If there is no free space on the disk, delete an existing partiton, and then create a new one
To return to the partition selection screen, press ENTE

have you tried deleting the partition, and creating a new one

after getting the error message, click enter

delete partition1, then create a new partition, windows should recognize it as a raid 0 array

HI. Just this second encountered and hopefully sorted the problem.

I was installing XP on two SATA drives on RAID 0.

I got the above error message everytime despite installing the raid drivers using F6 on start.

I have also got a 300GB IDE drive with all my downloads etc on it.

I simply unplugged the power and ribbon cable from the IDE hard drive and repeated the normal installation process. Now installing like it should do.

hope that helps.
